Cloud Engineer - Azure.

About the role

Due to the continued growth of the company, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our team of around 30 people, based at our head office in Newcastle upon Tyne (remote working is available initially). This role full time, working Monday to Friday however flexibility to work out of hours will be required as part of the on call rota.

As a Cloud Engineer, you will work as part of a collaborative team of varied disciplines, skills and experience. You will provide analytical incident management and resolution alongside project-deliverables across an expanding client base, ensuring quality service delivery and service level agreement compliancy. You will be responsible for availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning. You will have excellent technical knowledge across Microsoft public Cloud Services (Azure and Microsoft 365).

Main duties

  • Implementation and delivery of Microsoft Azure projects.

  • Contribution to the planning of application/infrastructure releases and configuration changes.

  • Interaction with key internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems.

  • Providing input to administering and maintaining all production and development environments.

  • Design of appropriate metrics for reporting on key performance and quality indicators, particularly in terms of in-depth trend analysis.

  • Continuous development, keeping up to date with developments and learning about the latest public Cloud products and services and increasing your knowledge.

Role requirements


  • Experience using Azure PaaS services.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and its relevant build, deployment, automation, networking, and security technologies in cloud and hybrid environments.

  • In-depth knowledge of a scripting language (PowerShell, Bash, Azure Cli).

  • Experience with Azure DevOps - deploying Infrastructure using CI/CD pipelines.

  • Understanding of network protocols, firewalls (Network Virtual Appliances) and routing.

  • Thirst for innovation, always seeking to improve.


  • Knowledge of Agile working practices.

  • Experience of hardening IT infrastructure based on security audits, standards and industry best practice (e.g. vulnerability scanning, penetration testing and ISO27001/17/18).

  • Experience with deployment and management of container technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, AKS and Docker).

  • Previous experience of working with infrastructure-as-code and immutable builds.

  • Experience of Infrastructure migrations to the Azure Cloud.

  • Microsoft Azure certifications.
